 In the woods

Up the mountain 

In the sea 

There is a signpost 

Pointing me in some direction 

But it’s lost 

I wander 

Deep into the shadows 

I have hope I’ll find it 

Lit by stars

Guiding me to sunlit fields

With long shadows 

Sun on my back

Warming my bones 

That have lived in me 

Supporting me through my journey 

Holding me steady 

Helping me against the winds 

That have blown me here and there

I hope they are strong .

I need them like never before 

To weather the oncoming storm

The summer has gone and post along with the youth of Spring

Picking through the chaff and stubble waiting for the moon to light the way to eternity 

Rising in solemn orange 

Calming the cool twilight 

Illuminating the mists of vision and thought 

The tiger in front of me 

Sleek. 

Powerful

Master of all he sees

Merciless,

has come 

I’ve no chance

 Take me to the fields where the honeysuckle grows

Where evening birdsong echoes round the breathless meadow,still in its majesty 

The sweet scent envelops my soul cloaking the hollow 

As dusk lays its hand gently on my shoulder

Walks with me as a fading friend

Reassuring before morphing into night

Leaving a ghostly mist as a shadow

A gift of cool

To fill my lungs with  calm 

A silver sea lapping at my feet

Where from here?

Forward into the unknown 

Leap into the void   

Float on dreams 

Slip into the Thin

Sun sand , ice, oceans Moon

Why 

For what, for whom

Where are we going ?

To the end, my friend

How long?

We rose above the menagerie of life, of earthly issue

To destroy it .

Relentless in our questioning 

To what end

Where has this trait led us 

We had the answer ,

But it slipped away

Lost to memory 

Gone the day 

We scratched the surface 

To see what’s beneath

Who will win ?

Murderous mankind

Super species   

Sweep all before

Leave a wasteland behind

10 Biblical plagues have nothing on us

A billion locusts , a drop in the ocean.

What will stop us?

War, disease, drought, fire , greed , fear ,?

Natures weapons blunt and useless 

Against the tide of filth we call mankind

Scoured and hollowed 

Carcasses of the compatriot animal kingdom

Screaming ,staggering ,perishing in our shadow.

But we march on spewing our way to oblivion

Let’s hope we leave a vestige of life

To rebuild their earth when we’ve left

For one Green Man is stronger than all.

 I long for peace I long for love

I long for your touch as if from above

Your deep deep eyes 

That mesmerise

That draw me in to your castle keep

That comfort me in night time sleep

You teach me ways of ancient strays

Journeyed for a million miles

Across the bridge of souls

Give to me up your hands to hold  

In return here’s my  heart to mould 

I’m like a lead that hangs

Forlorn on the hook

Awaiting the dog that never returns

That’s gone on the ether 

That died of a fever

Gathering the ,last  cobwebs of your smile

tHe lAST anyMAL

 I’m only an animal

What do I know  ?

I sit and gaze at receding snow

I wonder why,  10 years past

I stood at this spot in icy blast

Mysteriously it’s disappeared 

So it’s father North I’ll go I fear

I’m lost now in a barren land 

Devoid of life the grounds just sand

My coat is still a snowy white

I stick out like a shining light

I look back south

With dimming eyes

The pall  of smoke  it darkens skies

My friends of forest with terror fly

Their frightened eyes do wonder why?

Racing round in total panic

The earth is sinking as Titanic

Their homes are all now burnt down

Their hunting grounds  they’re out of town

I’m wandering unfamiliar lands

No food no shelter I’m prey to man

But I’m only an animal

I’ve packed my bags , I’m nearly gone

Consigned to history over and done

I’m the last on earth

I stand forlorn, And stand alone 

Gazing up as cold as stone

My mortal body it slumps down 

to Mother Earth its whispered sound 

The very one that gave me birth

goodbye forever  , Mother Earth 

My shadow soul it sheds a tear

At my dead  husk, it’s now all clear

Us animals were not built to last , 

Mankind will follow us

And fast
