CITI fell

 Hold my hand 

Hold it tight

Hold me  close

With our feet in sand

Sea salt perfume

Mirror sea, dancing lights

Rhythmic waves ,

Cooling the mind

Warm breeze, in your hair

Gently flicking across your eyes

I stare at you mesmerised.

Steps on the beach 

Left behind as we advance 

Each one a memory gone

Randomly together

As we dance 

Eyes to the stars 

Retreat to the dunes

Grass waves it’s welcome,

In your arms , embrace the moment

Ghostly moon looks down,

Bathes the hollow in monochrome

Distant citadel, broods in silhouette 

Protecting those within and without

Comforting outline, standing guard 

Centuries of looking down on others

Will crumble before this love , for lovers.

Fool crumb

 Youth is before the fulcrum 

Anxious to progress, time to waste

Rushing through new emotions

The flower of life opening up before the eyes

Joy of life ready to taste

Winding paths eagerly tread,

Randomly taken on a whim of mind

Pounding heart the sun pours in

Few rainy days , no gasping sighs

Eyes wide open , but temporarily blind

There comes a point unseen below

That slips beneath our restless feet.

The balance tipping, past midday

Beyond the solstice , beyond the cries

The see-saw stops it’s gentle repeat

Then looking back, where was the peak

The equilibrium that allowed me stand

To look around at all I’ve conquered 

To bathe in glory, to take it in

To breathe in the settled land

Missed the moment , gone forever,

Settled in my memories eye

Fading sunset ,is it golden?

Or twilight misted time now frozen

The fulcrum points towards the sky

GREEN man

 The green man is at my gate conjuring as magic those that sleep in the earth in winters dark days.

The larks again have found their voice and soar up in crisp dawn air , to find favour with a mate so fair

Frantic is the air and ground as hoof and claw alert with hearts beating , eyes wide and nostrils flared, sense the forthcoming battles ahead , to ensure their line is kept.

The strengthening sun , it’s long fingers creep into the the darkest shadow. Awaking the souls within, calling out to join the din

I look the green man  squarely in the eye. An ancient face I recognise. From deep down in a distant past , before mankind’s birth before my consciousness on this earth.

Take care he utters , take care , I am only here because of you. 

I cannot survive without your help

I am the the guardian of the green , I can’t create , Only husband the land.

Each year I rise and shepherd the seasons. Bring bounty where I can , bring beauty for all and Manna for man

Beware he calls, beware, for I’m tired and might not return.

Stuck

Between saucer and cup

Sultry sun

Wicker seat

Accordion beat

Another cigarette

Marking time

Blue smoke

Hangs 

Like a cloak

Marble top table 

Room for two

Blue ashtray

Full of stubs

Plane trees

Cool shade

There she is

Cool white

Flowing dress

Knowing yet unknowing

Her eyes caress

Scan the scene

Pass me like a has been.

Lovers we will never be

She sits alone.

Pression

Her scent crushes all around.

I chink the change

Figaro folded

 Train draws in, lives renewed 

Hand through the window open the door

Step down, municipal smell of station

Journeys end for some.

Mind the gap,

Case first, bag second, travel done.

Whistle blown , slam , slam ,slam,

Green flag

Onward change for others,

Car,bus, taxi,plane

Possibly another train

Facing forward facing back

Hand luggage on netting rack.

Passing stations full of faces

Wrapped in scarves 

Men with papers ,

Girls with pushchairs

Children bundled from the fog

Non stop through the platforms 

Hurtling, rails singing, 

Doppler,

Dop   pler

Dop ,Dop 

Dop Dop

Dop Dop

Swan 

Vesta 

Telegraph and Times

No Smoking,

Crossword.

Compartments.

Platform slightly on a curve,

Sound comes first 

Busy people clutching hands

Step back , fear of suction.

Black figure, solitary at platforms end

400 tons , 100mph

rooT

 Look down at the earth

Long shadows spill from my feet

That Shuffle in the dust of bygone days

Clouds of memory skip away on the breeze

Stone in the palm

Smooth and cool.

The mirror below, shaded pool

Invites the belligerent rock

Graceful arc from the launch

Motion slowed but no recall

As inertia fails, it starts to fall

Ignorant the mirror sleeps

Catastrophic broken skin

The rock is swallowed to the mud

Leaving undivided ripples

Infinite acceleration

Gentle waves lap the bank

Spent concentrics going nowhere

Like the feet that shuffle dust

Unsure which path to follow.

mY FRi- end

 I walk with my friend assumption

Who guides my thought from the minute I wake 

Automatic on assumption, drifting from one moment to another

Assumption I’ll wake

Assumption I’ll breathe

Assumption I’ll eat and drink

Assumption I’ll walk and talk

Assumption that you’ll be there.

But what if assumption is no longer my friend

How do I function, without assumption.

What if what I assume is now a void, to avoid.

Assumption gone, to be

Replaced by my enemy  , Guess,

If I walk with Guess, he is or isn’t there beside me

Unknown if I wake, or breathe, or eat or drink

I can only guess these things may happen

Like a guess you will return 

Not assumption
